FAQ

  • Why hire a structural engineer instead of a contractor, or foundation company when structural issues are found with your home?

    • Structural Engineers act as a unbiased third party that is not trying to sell you any additional services or products. As your engineering consultant our sole goal is to help you understand what the problem is, whether it is something to be concerned about, and if so what are your best solutions. A licensed Professional Engineer is also able to check the structural adequacy by running calculations to know for certain whether your structure is adequate.

  • What do structural engineers look for when inspecting a home?

    • We walk through your home and look for anything that looks out of the ordinary such as bowing walls, abnormal cracking, sagging roof/floor, damage to structural members, etc. that could indicate the structure is overloaded. There is no one specific thing we look for as its an aggregation of many factors that combined with our experience let us know if there are any areas of concern. Non-structural items are not part of an engineers scope of inspection.

  • What happens if it is determined my home has problems?

    • If it is determined that your home has structural deficiencies, I will analyze the situation and provide you with the most cost effective solutions.
